A Journey of Thanks

This blog follows my personal journey of thanks. On Dec. 5, 2007, I turn 30. Over the next year, I will reflect back on my life and personally thank all those individuals who made a difference in my life. These thanks will occur through hand written thank you notes and face-to-face encounters. Along my journey, I will interview today's top experts on gratitude and capture my experience through a personal video journal. The end result is a documentary film called "A Journey of Thanks."

Three Things of Thanks...

Here are a few things I'm thankful for since my last post...

1) The Course of Miracles: My wife and I have joined a local study group here in Fargo. It's a very deep text but insights have been flowing since we began. If you're not familiar with the text you can read more about it here or at a great blog by our friend Jodee

2) The Red Bridge Inn: We had a wonderful stay at the Red Bridge Inn in Park Rapids, MN. Chanda and I and our friend Sheri went for a little "retreat" to brainstorm ideas and get connected. I've never stayed at a bed and breakfast before that had such wonderful hosts. Kevin and Jennie were wonderful from the moment we walked in! Well worth the stay.

3) Potty Trained: Yes, I'm SO HAPPY AND GRATEFUL that our son Jacob is potty trained. It was like one day he woke up and said ok I'm just going to do this and he does. My favorite part in this is when he tells me how many times he went in a day. "Daddy I went 3 times...5 times..." But the funny thing is, it is not necessarly how many times he sits on the toliet. It's how many poops he had in the toliet when he stands up. The other night he looked in and saw three little poops and said, "Look Daddy, I went 3 times!"

These are just three blessings and moments of gratitude from the past week. More where there and more are already on there way!

International Thank You Day!

Today is International Thank you Day! How perfect that a day like this exists in the world and to discover it on this Journey. I can't find too much info on the history of the day, some think it was just made up by the greeting card companies...maybe that is why the best info I found was from a greeting cards site! Click here to read more about this day...

Don't forget your Thank Yous today!

A Moment of Pure Gratitude

This entry is short but it's something I want to remember. Yesterday, I experienced a moment of thanks that moved me to tears. My three year old, Jacob, and I were out for supper (But calls everything "lunch") and right in the middle of our Subway sandwiches he leans over puts his hand on my arm and says, "I love you, Daddy." I was moved by his little act of love. I held back my tears a little bit as I didn't want to cry in Subway but I recognized the beauty of the moment and just sat there and savored this experience. I've had these moments before with Jake and it is such a deep connection and it impacts me on such an emotional level, the tears that well and the joy I feel comes from that space of gratitude. I'm so happy and grateful to be Jacob's Dad and to have a son who shows his love in such wonderful sweet ways.

Happy New Year!

It has arrived...2007 is here and something tells me it is going to be an extraordinary year!! This year is the year of Declarations! I'm choosing to shift the conversation this year...so rather than make a list of resolutions, I'm committed to speaking from the top of the mountain my list of DECLARATIONS! The power of the declaration is what has already propelled me forward in so many exciting ways. My enthusiasm for this year started when I declared my "Journey of Thanks" and I'm so joyful to be in this state of gratitude. Now as I enter the New Year I also declare a new commitment to health and wellness. I've help create a "Declaration for Transformation in 2007" at my local fitness club. It all started with a moment of inspiration and suddenly I'm co-creating this 19 week program with the club owners. One thing you have to get about me...the whole weight training and exercise domain has never been a real profound part of my life. Don't get me wrong, my family eats well and everything and I do exercise from time to time but to take on this program is a new world. So the fact that I'm sitting there at the club sharing about what I'm committed to and how we can create this fitness program is quite a trip! I've attached a photo so you can see what I'm committed to...you can see my before picture and my vision and declaration for my "after" photo. (If you can't tell I've posted my head on another body.) I'll post the results at the half way point in 9.5 weeks and then again at the end. The program officially starts January 15th! Let the transformation begin.

"I'm so happy and grateful now that my body is in peak performance and I have succeeded in achieving my delcaration of transforming my health and wellness!"
